A life you can call your own
André Froes
Analyse the choices you have been making in your life.
Are most of them driven by fear of rejection, hunger for recognition, worry or anxiety about things that never happened, or a belief you inherited and have never truly examined?
Culture, education and religion all play a role in how your life unfolds. Are you really building an authentic life aligned with your own essence, or just repeating patterns?
How much of your life really belongs to you?
At Seekers Lighthouse, we know that who you have become is not the limit of who you can become. You begin with who you are, right now: the best starting point available.
Freedom is the first step. Allow yourself to question your premises, including what is supposed to be good or evil, and to choose beyond the options laid out for you, usually without your consent. Allow yourself to walk in the opposite direction to the crowd. Your will is the driving force.
Could this be a source of evil? While evil is an abstract concept and highly dependent on culture, egocentrism is much more concrete. A free and egocentric person can do a lot of harm. If you really feel disconnected from other human beings and from nature, and have an extractive mindset, freedom will make you even worse.
But ethics can emerge naturally in the life of someone who manifests Love and is conscious of how interconnected all humanity and all life are.
We must also reflect on how we seek truth. Not as fixed dogma. Our understanding of the world must remain flexible, evolving as we process new experiences, data and feedback.
Spiritual traditions offer ways of investigating inner life, while scientific thinking brings discipline to the examination of our explanations.
Ignorance and a failure to understand the second- and third-order consequences of our actions are as much a source of evil as malicious intent.
And in the end, there is creation, because theory without practice is empty. The power to transform your life and your reality is the ultimate goal.
Mental clarity, emotional balance and a strong will are the foundations of useful spirituality, allowing you to put longstanding spiritual frameworks into practice in ways that are relevant today.
Then you are ready to begin your adventure in search of transcendence. We will not attempt a complete definition here. For now, see it as the possibility of manifesting something far beyond what you, your family or society ever thought possible.
Lighthouse’s light comes from our shared effort to understand these profound questions and give that understanding expression in our own lives. Our individual light, however faint or small, joins the light of those on the same path. Together, these lights are strong enough to guide us all through the darkest night.
